Harmony by the Bay Festival

Here's something my little non-college self has been up to.

About a week ago, I went to the Harmony but the Bay Music Festival, where a bunch of awesome bands were playing.  My uncle Simon took me (and even paid for my ticket!) to Mountain View to see the concerts.

First there was Eric Hutchinson, who was hilarious and worked the crowd really well.  And his music sounded amazing live!  We loved it.  His introduction was awesome: "Hi, I'm Eric Hutchinson.  I'm one of the people you can listen to while you wait for The Shins."  Sorry, Bud.

Then Kimbra came out, aka the girl who sang in Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know."  She sang beautifully, but the drums and guitars were so obscenely loud, we spent most of the performance cowering in our seats with our hands over our ears.  But she's a really charismatic person to see live, so it was fun.

After Kimbra's drums destroyed our ear drums and rattled up our brains, we decided to take a break to get food.  It seems we went to the wrong stand, though, because we after suffering in silence for a bit, we discovered both of us weren't feeling 100% after ingesting globs of sodium-loaded teriyaki sauce.  We pulled our hoods over our eyes and slouched in the amphitheater seats, relaxing to the gentle croons of Alison Krauss.

It was just enough time to get pumped up for Tegan and Sara!  They were so exciting.  The audience was lucky enough to hear a few of their new songs, and their setup had these cool squares of striped light.  Let that sink in.  I'm not going to explain it better.  Tegan and Sara were super cute too.  At one point Sara said, "I know you've all had a long day, and if you want to sit down, that's okay.  I mean, we're Canadian, we want you to be comfortable, we want you to be happy.  But hopefully this song will make you want to get up and shake your butts!"

At 9:45, the much awaited Shins came on!  They're one of my favorite bands of all time, so I was pretty freaking excited.  The whole concert was so amazing.  I was incredibly tired but found the energy to stand through the 90-minute concert and even awkwardly dance a little too.

I had a wonderful day, and it was great to experience something new.  I love this city and I'm so lucky to get to live here.

But it's not all play!  Now I'm looking for a job, which is loads of fun.  I get to make a resume and give it to all the businesses that aren't hiring.  Huzzah!  What joy it brings.
